3D looks that work as a logo

Graphivo makes flat logos that print anywhere, so the depth comes from shape and flat color. Ask for one of these looks by name; glossy, chrome and glow effects come out as flat bands of color.

Isometric

Shapes drawn at an angle so you see three faces at once, like a cube or a letter block.

Layered planes

Overlapping shapes in two tones, each overlap a shade darker.

Faceted

A light side and a dark side, so the form looks folded or carved.

Folded ribbon

A strip with a darker underside where it turns, like folded paper.

Contour lines

Parallel lines that build a form. A good match for the line-art style.

Long shadow

A single flat shadow cast diagonally from the symbol.

Flat logo vs. 3D render

Your main logo has to work everywhere, from a one-color invoice to a 16 px browser tab. A 3D render is a picture of your logo made for one setting, so build it from the flat logo when you need it.

A 3D render is a great use of a logo. It makes a poor master file.

Turning the flat logo into real 3D

  1. Download the vector file

Every package includes SVG, PDF and EPS. The SVG is the format most 3D tools read.

  2. Import it into Blender

Blender imports SVG files as curves (File > Import > Scalable Vector Graphics). Imported SVGs often arrive very small, so scale the curves up first.

  3. Extrude and bevel

In the curve's Geometry settings, set Extrude to give the shapes depth and add a small Bevel so the edges catch the light. Then add materials, lights and a camera, and render.

  4. Or hand it to a motion designer

Motion designers can do the same in After Effects or Cinema 4D. Ask which file format they prefer.

  5. Or skip 3D software entirely

Studio includes realistic mockups of your logo on a storefront, a T-shirt, a mug and a business card.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can Graphivo make a 3D logo?

Graphivo makes flat logos, not 3D renders with lighting and reflections. You can give them a three-dimensional look with isometric, layered or faceted designs, and turn the vector file into a real 3D model in Blender or similar software.

Is a 3D logo a bad idea?

As your only logo, usually yes: it won't print in one color, embroider or stay clear at favicon size. As one use of a flat logo, it's great for video intros, hero images, trade-show screens and packaging.

Which style presets give the strongest sense of depth?

Geometric works best for isometric and faceted shapes, abstract for layered planes and folded ribbons, and line-art for contour lines. Ask for the look by name, such as isometric or layered, rather than a material like chrome or gloss.

What file do I need for 3D printing or laser cutting?

The SVG, which comes with every package. Laser cutters and vinyl plotters read it directly. For 3D printing, import the SVG into Blender or Tinkercad, extrude it to the thickness you want and export an STL for your slicer.

Will a 3D-look logo print on a T-shirt?

Yes, as long as the depth comes from flat color areas rather than gradients. Count the colors, since a two-tone isometric shape in three brand colors means several screens. Make sure the logo still works in one color, with the shaded faces dropped.

I already have a glossy 3D logo. Can you flatten it?

Graphivo's vectorize tool turns a PNG or JPG logo into vector files after a free preview, but heavy shading and reflections come out as bands of color. For a glossy logo, it usually works better to describe the shape and generate a new flat version.
