Logo ideas for tech startups

Symbols that read instantly in this industry. Mention one when you generate, or let Graphivo surprise you.

  • A geometric initial built on a 4x4 grid
  • Connected nodes, the classic for network and data products
  • A single bold slash or bracket
  • An abstract shape for your product's core action: a fold, a merge, a pulse
  • A dot circling a ring for platform products
  • Two overlapping shapes with a cut-out where they meet
  • An asterisk or spark for AI-adjacent products

Color

Color palettes that work

Deep indigo

#0F0A2E · #4F46E5 · #A5B4FC

Indigo is common in software, so it signals 'tech' instantly and works in dark-mode interfaces. The trade-off is blending in; pair it with a distinctive shape if you choose it.

Acid lime

#0B0F0E · #B8F34A · #2A9D8F

Lime on near-black stands out among blue-and-purple competitors and looks sharp on a dark landing page. Lime is unreadable as text on white, so the near-black carries the wordmark there.

Warm coral

#2B1D1D · #FF6B4A · #FFE8D6

Friendly and human for consumer, wellness or community products. Coral is distinct in an app store full of blue icons, and the dark brown keeps the wordmark readable.

Type

Fonts to try

All of them are in the editor and cleared for commercial use.

Tech Startup

Space Grotesk

A geometric grotesk with quirky details that feels at home in developer tools and technical products. It looks good in a README header and printed on a hoodie.

Tech Startup

Manrope

Clean and modern with open shapes; it reads well in the small nav bar of a landing page and looks credible in an investor deck.

Tech Startup

Inter

The neutral choice built for screens. If your product UI is likely to use Inter anyway, a matching wordmark keeps the product and the brand consistent.

Styles that suit tech startups

  • Geometric

    Precise circles, triangles and grids

  • Abstract

    A unique abstract mark

  • Minimal

Simple shapes, lots of space, one or two colors

  • Lettermark

    A monogram from your initials

Clichés to avoid

  • A rocket ship: every launch metaphor has been used, and it says nothing about your product.
  • Generic globes and network meshes: common enough to be invisible, and the fine lines clog at favicon size.
  • Gradients and glows as the only version: a hoodie, a sticker and an invoice need a flat, one-color mark.
  • Borrowing a big tech company's shape or color pair: users notice, and it can create trademark conflicts.
  • Thin outline icons: they vanish in a 16 px browser tab.

Designing a tech startup logo that works

A startup logo is mostly seen small: the favicon in a browser tab, the app icon on a home screen, avatars on GitHub, X and LinkedIn, a launch-platform thumbnail and the corner of a pitch deck. Make sure the icon works at 16 and 32 px first, then worry about how the full lockup looks in the website header.

iOS and Android apply their own corner masks to app icons, so keep the important part of the symbol away from the edges. Plan for dark mode, where a dark wordmark disappears, and for stickers and embroidered hoodies, which need a flat version with few colors. A simple lettermark or geometric symbol handles all of this better than an illustration does.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much should a startup spend on a logo before product-market fit?

Usually not much. Early on you need something clean, legible and consistent, and a full brand identity makes more sense once you know who your customers are. A logo with vector files and app icons covers launch, so you can spend the rest on the product.

Which logo files does a startup need at launch?

An SVG for the website, a favicon, a 1024 px app icon if you ship a mobile app, square social avatars, and a white version for dark interfaces and slides. Pro covers all of these. Starter includes the logo files and versions but not the favicon, app icons or social kit.

How do I make my logo work in dark mode?

Plan two versions from the start: the standard one and an on-dark one where dark parts become white or a light tint. Avoid relying on thin black outlines, and check that your accent color has enough contrast on both white and near-black. Test the favicon in a dark browser theme too, since that's where many developers will see it.

Wordmark, symbol or both for a startup?

Both, if you can. The wordmark builds name recognition on the website, in the deck and in press mentions, while the symbol works in square spaces like the favicon, app icon and avatars. If you must choose, a lettermark gives you a compact mark that still points to the name.

Will an abstract logo still fit if we pivot?

Usually, which is one reason startups choose abstract or geometric marks: they don't describe one feature, so they survive a change in direction. A literal symbol such as a shopping cart or a chat bubble ties you to one use case. If you pivot to a new company name, treat it as a new logo.
